Director of MIT Energy Initiative addresses the energy university of the future

On 1 March Professor Ernest J. Moniz, the Director of the MIT Energy Initiative, will give a guest lecture at TU Delft on the future of energy research, education and innovation. Moniz is a Professor of Physics and Engineering Systems and the director of the Laboratory for Energy and the Environment at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

In 2010 moet een kwart van de hoogleraren in Europa vrouw zijn. Nederland haalt dat bij lange na niet: slechts een op de tien leerstoelen wordt bekleed door een vrouw. Daarmee bungelt Nederland onderaan de ranglijsten. Is er een gebrek aan vrouwelijk wetenschappelijk talent? Is het hoogleraarschap wel te combineren met een gezin? Leiden quota tot excuus-Truzen? Vaderlands bekendste wetenschapper Robbert Dijkgraaf leidt een bruisend debat om mevrouw de professor beter op de kaart te krijgen.

New HP (Het Proefschrift journal): Spring 2010 issue coming up at February the 18th

The TU Delft’s PhD association, Promood, will launch the new issue of its journal, HP (Het Proefschrift). After a long period without being delivered to the PhD community the new Promood board and the journal’s new editorial team thought that it was time to make a new beginning for the journal. A new layout design, new sections and extended contents were created in order to create a publication which could be a good companion for TU Delft’s PhD and research community. Contributions to the Spring 2010 issue of the journal are focused in a broad range of subjects, from science to leisure, from ethics to aesthetics. The launching event will take place at the bar of the Industrial Design Faculty - TU Delft on February 18, from 17:00.

New: Digital Guide for new TU Delft staff

This month saw the introduction of a digital guide intended for new TU Delft staff. The guide works like a start page, referring new members of staff to important information that may prove useful to them. It can be accessed via www.nieuwemedewerker.tudelft.nl or via employee portal -> appointment -> new employee.

Information on Open Access

What does Open Access mean?

Open Access is the alternative to Closed Access (or Subscription Access or Toll Access). Open Access provides the means to maximise the visibility and use, of research outputs. Open Access is the immediate, online, free availability of research outputs without the severe restrictions on use commonly imposed by publisher copyright agreements. It concerns the outputs that scholars normally give away free to be published – peer-reviewed journal articles, conference papers and datasets of various kinds.
